Live Fast Magazine - 'Fashion & Art Merge In Free People The Artist Issue'
Eccentric art meets new-age, bohemian fashion in this month’s Free People campaign, “The Artist Issue.” Perfectly merging two free-spirited worlds, this collection takes virtuosity beyond just a casual crossover of fashion and art, thrusting fans into a world of unrelenting creativity.
The lifestyle brand selected top models Joan Smalls, actress Margaret Qualley, and the multi-talented Tali Lennox, to star in the campaign, enlisting artists Alison Cooley, Jessica May Underwood, and painter/model Tali Lennox to create original backdrops for the three featured editorials in the campaign. From Cooley’s abstract color ink bubbles encircling model Smalls, to the watercolor botanicals surrounding Qualley, to Lennox alongside her own sentimental portraits, photographers Paola Kudacki and Bjorn Iooss perfectly capture the inspired campaign.
Further embracing the celebrated merge of fashion and art, each editorial highlights harmonious contemporary looks that speak to the inspiration of each artist. Smalls, as flawless as ever, wears the brand’s latest bohemian-inspired threads, which perfectly pair back to artist Cooley’s colorful backgrounds, while Lennox casually expresses herself in flowy, everyday style pieces. Contrasting the relaxed, uninhibited cloths worn by Smalls and Lennox, Qualley sports essential denim pieces to follow artist Underwood’s blue toned botanicals. Collection highlights include fringe accents, crochet detailing, maxi dresses, printed ponchos, and unique one pieces. Expect to also ogle attention-stealing accessories, including wide brim and lieutenant hats, layered necklaces, and duster earrings. Each look is finished with the perfect shoe, from platform sandals paired with exposed ankle socks, essential flats, and leather ankle boots.
In celebration of the campaign, limited edition prints by Alison Cooley of TAPPAN COLLECTIVE, as well as original watercolor prints by Jessica May Underwood of Breed London and Bernstein & Andriulli, will be available for sale on FreePeople.com.
